Course Synopsis

Presenter: Jack Hahn, DDS

It is an all-too-frequent occurrence in the busy dental practice: A patient arrives with a fractured or non-restorable tooth in the esthetic zone. Often, practitioners have their schedules disrupted while they seek a temporary solution so the patient can be reappointed for definitive tooth replacement. The immediate extraction and implant placement procedure solves these issues for both the patient and dentist.

In this course, Dr. Hahn will explore the “emergency” implant protocol, in which an extraction is performed, an implant placed, and a provisional restoration delivered on the same day, allowing practitioners to provide for the urgent need of the patient in a definitive and practical manner.

Perform clinical examination
Recommend diagnosis and treatment — immediate or delayed placement
Apply atraumatic extraction techniques
Examine socket and prepare site
Place implant for optimum position and primary stability
Describe when bone grafting is necessary, and determine the material to use
Manipulate soft tissue to preserve papilla and maintain gingival harmony
Identify immediate provisional restoration options
Administer post-treatment care
Determine what actions to take if complications occur

Jack A. Hahn, DDS

Dr. Jack Hahn earned his DDS from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and completed postgraduate coursework at Boston University, New York University, the University of Michigan and the University of Kentucky. A pioneer in the field of implant dentistry, Dr. Hahn has been placing and restoring implants for nearly 50 years. Dr. Hahn developed the original tapered implant design in the 1990s. Most recently, he oversaw the design of the Hahn™ Tapered Implant, which was created to streamline treatment and improve results. Recipient of the Venue and LEAD magazine Healthcare Leadership Award, Dr. Hahn was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry in 2015. Dr. Hahn is also clinical editor of Chairside^® magazine. He lectures to dentists around the world and maintains a private practice in Cincinnati, Ohio.
