Course Synopsis

Presenter: Taylor Manalili, DDS

The skills required for successful grafting and optimal wound closure can be difficult to master and require practicing the proper techniques. This course will present efficient procedures for grafting and suturing, which will be useful in socket preservation and implant site preparation procedures. Several types of suturing will be reviewed, including simple interrupted, crisscross, horizontal mattress and continuous locking. Students will follow along with the instructor in a live, hands-on online setting and have the opportunity to ask questions in real time.

Learning Objectives

  • Review various suture and bone grafting materials
  • Examine suturing techniques, including simple interrupted, crisscross, horizontal mattress and continuous locking
  • Apply predictable bone-grafting techniques

Participants will receive a hands-on kit that includes:

  • PGA and chromic gut sutures
  • Silicone grafting and suture model
  • Graft materials: cortical/cancellous bone graft, collagen plug, collagen membrane
  • 1 mL/cc syringe
  • OsteoGen® Plug
  • Biotex™ PTFE Suture

Materials required (not included in kit):

  • Locking handle needle holder or Castroviejo needle holder
  • Tissue forceps
  • Scissors
  • Medium-size condenser or plugger
  • Small cup of water
  • Gauze
  • Periodontal Probe

Taylor Manalili

Taylor Manalili, DDS

Dr. Taylor Manalili is director of clinical prosthodontics at Glidewell. In the onsite dental clinic at Glidewell, Dr. Manalili helps to enhance laboratory protocols, conduct clinical research, and perform advanced restorative work — including implant placement, chairside restorations and full-mouth rehabilitations. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Northeastern University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Stony Brook University, where she also obtained an advanced certificate in prosthodontics and digital technologies. Dr. Manalili completed her fellowship and diplomate in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She joined the Resnik International Implant Institute as a prosthodontic faculty member and has over ten years of teaching experience in diverse education settings.
